Welcome to the Scriba Historical Society’s website
We appreciate you taking the time to visit our site and expressing an interest in our town on the shore of Lake Ontario.
From the original charter of 1978:
The purpose of the Scriba Historical Society is:
“To preserve the cultural and historical records of the early Scriba pioneers and future pioneers including, but not limited to early schooling, early industries, cemeteries, burial records, school districting, and craftsman.”

2026 Schedule of Events
(subject to change)
Friday, January 30th – 1:00pm
“Girl in the Glass Coffin: The Tonkin Affairs”
Scriba veterans are now shown in the bulletin board display case in the hallway of the Scriba Municipal Building. If you have a picture or memento you would like shown, please contact Scriba Historical Society President Mary Himes at scribahs@gmail.com
The Scriba Historical Society generally hosts two events per month: a Tuesday evening presentation centering on a Scriba-themed topic, and a Friday afternoon roundtable discussion, where the public is invited to come and share their interest in local and family history, as well as to seek answers to any research they may be doing. Our goal is to be able to pass our heritage down to the coming generations.
General meetings and presentations on the 2nd Tuesday of the month start at 6:30pm, and will resume in March 2026 .
Friday afternoon roundtable discussions occur on the last Friday of the month at 1:00pm.
Unless otherwise specified, the presentations and the roundtable discussions happen in the Community Room of the Scriba Municipal Building, located at 42 Creamery Road.
If you are interested in offering suggestions for future programming and meeting issues, please email us at scribahs@gmail.com so we can add them to the agenda, and the ideas list. Be on the lookout for a newsletter for details on upcoming ideas and discussions had at the officer’s meetings. Thanks!

The coat of arms is that of the Scriba Family Association which was founded in Darmstadt, Germany in the 16th century. The family gave the town permission to use it when the 180th anniversary of Scriba was celebrated.
