Amy Strong joined us to talk about the Scriba Christmas Project, which has been happening every year in Scriba for over 62 years! The project has been assisting Scriba families with food and toys at Christmastime, and blossomed from four families: the Powers, the Baxters, the Corys, and the Jones families. While those who started the project may no longer be with us, their generosity and spirit for giving has been handed down through the years and continues to spread joy during the holiday season.

During our roundtable discussion, we welcomed Tom Battles as our newest Trustee for the Scriba Historical Society. What does a Trustee do? Trustees oversee the actions of the Executive Board, assist with procuring programming, programming ideas and/or other committees when needed, as well as voting on various things that come up during meetings of the Historical Society. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, drop us a line, give us a call, or let us know at a meeting!

Judy and Bob LaMay gave a history of their coming to live at their present home and that Bob, a long haul trucker at the time, voiced a desire to obtain a pilots license. Judy encouraged him and after many weeks of training, Bob became a licensed pilot. Of course it is hard to fly without a plane so they invested and soon Bob and Judy were visiting interesting places all over the East Coast.

Dave and Todd MacLean presented Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart,” a slide show utilizing a “magic lantern” design projector invented back in the 1600’s. This method was used up into the 20th century, at which point the modern day movie projector came on the market. The short story was compelling and the sound effects were outstanding.
